This course will introduce the concepts and fundamentals of drug delivery taking into account the new strategies evolved over the years in achieving sustained and targeted delivery of many drugs. Materials employed for achieving controlled release systems, mechanisms of release, fabrication of delivery devices will be discussed. The delivery of macromolecules, including vaccines, proteins and genetic material has attracted considerable attention in recent years and the strategies employed in delivering these fragile molecules will be highlighted.
