1. Classify phase transformations on the basis of mechanistic (structural), thermodynamic, and kinetic criteria. 2. List technologically relevant applications for phase transformations of each kind. 3. Determine concentration profiles and related quantities of the diffusing species using of Fick's laws for solid state diffusion. 4. Calculate relevant physical parameters of transformations using well established models for kinetics of nucleation and growth and related experimental data.​ 5. Describe the experimental characteristics of diffusional and non-diffusional transformations in common metallic and alloy systems.
