The objective of the course is to introduce B.Tech and DD students to basics of Power Electronics. Power Electronics deals with efficient processing of electric "power" using "electronic" devices. Broadly, the studies under power electronics pertain to conversion between ac and dc and the electronics involved therein. The applications of power electronics extend from a simple mobile charger to power supplies used in spacecrafts, power processing circuits used in renewable energy systems and motor control in electric vehicles. This being a basic course, it throws light on the electronic devices for power electronic applications and the circuit topologies used for rectification (ac to dc), conversion (dc to dc), inversion (dc to ac) and cyclo-conversion (ac to ac). This course is a pre-requisite for advanced courses related to power electronics.
